Lille Christmas Market Trip

On Friday 6th December, 14 Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure to the Lille Christmas Markets in France. The day was filled with excitement, language practice, and festive cheer. Both staff and students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which offered a wonderful opportunity to bring classroom learning to life.

Upon arrival, we parked on the outskirts of Lille and made our way to the city center. Staff and students enjoyed a traditional French brasserie lunch and ordered everything in French showcasing their language skills with confidence. Their politeness and eagerness to learn were commendable.

The Christmas Markets were undoubtedly the highlight of the trip. Students enthusiastically engaged with local vendors, confidently practicing their French and earning praise for their efforts as they explored the vibrant and festive stalls.

One of the standout moments was the Ferris wheel ride, which provided breathtaking views of the city and markets below. The joy and excitement on the students’ faces were heartwarming to see.

Following the ride, the students had an opportunity to revisit their favourite stalls under distant supervision. Their independence and exemplary behavior were a credit to the group. Before heading home, we made a final stop at a c harming café boulangerie, where everyone enjoyed delicious crepes and hot chocolate—a perfect and cozy conclusion to our time in Lille.

The return journey was seamless and enjoyable. After a quick dinner at the Eurotunnel terminal where students once again practiced ordering food in French with enthusiasm we boarded our train back to College. For many, this trip was filled with firsts: their first time traveling through the Eurotunnel, their first visit to France, and their first opportunity to immerse themselves in such a vibrant cultural event. Watching their faces light up with excitement and seeing their confidence grow throughout the experience was truly rewarding.

We hope to see even more students join future trips like this one, as it was undoubtedly an unforgettable and enriching experience for all.
